North Lake College recently held a ceremony to recognize 23 Irving ISD students who participated in TexPrep, a math-based summer enrichment program. The ceremony also celebrated the new partnership between North Lake and the Irving ISD. Through the program, students studied science, technology, engineering, and math in a college setting. They needed a grade of 85 percent or higher in science, math, and English and they had to submit an essay to take the seven-week program.
“The program’s goals are to prepare students for the future,” said Lynda Edwards, dean of educational partnership and recruitment, “The emphasis on STEM is consistent with our emphasis to promote the sciences as a strong component of North Lake College.”
At the ceremony, each student talked about how they felt about the program. Irving ISD Superintendent Dr. Dana Bedden also spoke and parents received certificates of support.
