Irving-based Kimberly-Clark Corp said its net income increased 22 percent to $498 million for the quarter that ended June 30, up from $408 million a year ago. Revenue increased 0.2 percent to $5.27 billion. The increase comes from investiture in research and the development of new products, where K-C typically invests about 1.5 percent of revenue, to marketing and selling products to customers. K-C said it increased its strategic marketing spending by $35 million in the quarter and $80 million in the first half of the year, compared with the same periods last year. The company expects the rate of total market spending to increase much faster than revenue growth for the rest of this year,
