Irving resident Craig Boleman said the animals kept him running. Despite the heat, Boleman recently completed Chicago’s half-marathon, which is 13.1 miles, at 9:30 AM
“I hit the wall between miles eight and nine. But I thought of animals like our Theo and Diana Pfaff’s Zeke and and those sweet animals inspired me to keep going,” Boleman said in a news release.
Thanks to the support of more 30 contributors, his completion of the race raised more than $2,300 dollars for the DFW Humane Society. The DFW Humane Society is a nonprofit, no-kill shelter in Irving that houses about 80 to 100 animals at any given time. The shelter takes in strays from around the area. The final total raised will be announced at the Black Collar Affair, which is set for Oct. 27 at Las Colinas Country Club. For tickets and sponsorship information, call 972-721-7788.
