The Department of Defense has approved six models of Research In Motion’s BlackBerry 7 smartphones for use on its networks. Reuters reported that the approval extends a long
relationship between the DOD and the smartphone known for its tight security. Personnel
with the U.S. Army and other DOD long have used BlackBerry phones, and the
approval will allow an upgrade to Canada-based Research in Motion’s latest
phone while it waits for the release of the new BlackBerry 10 devices later
this year.
