This Saturday, February 11, at 9:00am all Irving ISD eighth graders and ROTC students will enjoy a special showing of the film, “Red Tails” at the AMC Grapevine Mills movie theater. The movie tickets for the approximately 800 students are provided by the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals. “Red Tails” tells the historic story of the Tuskegee Airman, a group of African American pilots who fought in World War II as part of the U.S. Army Air Corps. The students have been studying the subject in class and this week all Irving ISD secondary students watched the History Channel documentary about the Tuskegee Airmen called “Double Victory”.
Following the movie will be a discussion session about factual events and stories that will be shared by Tuskegee Airmen Calvin Spann and Homer Hogues.
