Irving’s crime rate fell for the seventh year in a row in 2011, setting a record low for the city for the fifth consecutive year.

Police Chief Larry Boyd said a number of police programs have contributed to Irving’s continuous crime rate declines.  The overall crime rate last year fell by about 12 percent from the rate in 2010.

The chief said he doesn’t know how long the crime rate decreases can be sustained. But he also said that there’s never going to be a level of crime he’s comfortable with. “No matter what it does, our focus is going to be on reducing crime,” Boyd said.
