The thirty-one Leadership Irving-Las Colinas Class of 2011 participants focused on Leadership Development on December 3.

The class was led through an impressive day of leadership development presentations and activities by our program sponsor, Mike Overby, Principal and Owner of Express Employment Professionals.  The class was held at the Las Colinas Country Club, our host sponsor, where attendees received a warm welcome from General Manager Ron Woolard.

Jack Smalley, Director of HR Learning and Development for Express Employment Professionals, shared important real-life lessons with the class as he presented “The Top 10 Reasons Leaders Fail”.  Randy Mayeux, the founder of and now a consultant for Creative Communications Network, then discussed a synopsis of the book “Encouraging the Heart: A Leader’s Guide to Rewarding and Encouraging Others” over a working lunch with the class.

The day concluded with a local leadership panel that discussed career highlights and keys to leadership success.  The panel was moderated by Mike Overby and included panelists:  City Manager Tommy Gonzalez; Alison Peat, Fluor Corporation; Charles Pierson, Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Texas; Randy Mayuex, Creative Communications Network, Tom Trotter, IBM Senior Executive Emeritus; and Christi Harris, Christi Harris Cosmetics.

The class, which represents numerous local private, public, and non-profit organizations, will meet the first Friday each month through April and will focus on a different area of Irving-Las Colinas at each meeting.  In January, the class will focus on Business and Economic Development.

The mission of Leadership Irving-Las Colinas is to identify, educate, and develop future leaders and to motivate these leaders for civic, charitable, and community involvement.  If you are interested or want to recommend a local business or community leader for the Class of 2012, please email Alysia Bell at
